The Shepard story began in Stonington, Maine, where brothers Prentis and Leroy Shepard operated a family business hauling granite from local quarries throughout New England. In 1955, the brothers shifted gears and entered the automotive industry, opening their first Buick dealership in Deer Isle. Over the decades that followed, the Shepard family expanded its presence across Maine and represented numerous automotive brands, including Toyota. Today, Shepard remains a family-owned business with second- and third-generation family members actively involved in its daily operations. That continuity is what makes Shepard Toyota more than a familiar name. It is a local legacy built through hard work, lasting relationships, and a commitment to doing business the right way.
